Latest Project...last parts of the wall building.

| Before we were fully sure what we would fill in the walls with I used small cedar logs on the west corners for bracing in a log cabin style. They were not just stacked logs but served as braces because they were lag bolted to the main structural post of our post and beam structure.What I did was simply to build a cavity on the inside with 2 x 6s and 2 x 4s. They are then filled with wool and the outside of the logs will be covered with cob mud. There is a few inches ledge space outside the log walls and that will bring it flush with the bale face. Since this corner will have these wide windows we will only need to put a few bales overhead. Their weight will be supported from above and below. It will also give a nice deep sill. |
